The definition of “partnership”…
- “An arrangement where parties, known as p________, agree to cooperate to advance their m_________ i_________________.”
- the simple meaning of the word is "to have in c____________."
- Philippians 1:18
- “But what does it matter? The important thing is that in every way whether from false motives or true, Christ is preached…” that is the “m_____ interest”!
This idea of “p______________” echoes throughout this book
- In 1:27 he admonishes them to “stand firm in ONE spirit contending as ONE man for the faith of the Gospel….”
- In 2:2 He asks them to make his joy full by being like minded having the same love, being ONE in spirit and purpose.
- And in the next verse he instructs them to “Consider others better (or more important) than yourselves.”
- Their attitude (that is all of the church) should be the same as that of Christ Jesus…
- Vs 14, “Do everything without complaining or arguing…”
- 3:17 “Join with others in following my example….
- 4:2…. “Agree with each other” really the whole fourth chapter is demonstrating the reality of partnership with the church and the admonition to have partnership with each other.
- The idea of a “Loyal” yokefellow indicates that the person/ or persons here addressed were “p_______ their s_________ of the load”.
- “I thank my God every time I remember you”…
- We need to apply this to our fellow members… we need to remember to thank God for each other. When we are thankful for each other we are able to o___________ those little things that irritate us. When we give thanks we have trouble f________ s___________ for ourselves.
- “In all my prayers for all of you, I always pray with joy because of your partnership I the gospel from the first day until now…”
- He makes it a habit to pray with joy, because he recognizes their p in the g ! In other words, they all look at the BIG goal… the Gospel!!!!!
- …. “being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus”.
- Paul was able to pray for them, and to have joy for their partnership, because he was confident that God was not f____________ with them yet… He was able to give them g________, because he knew that they were a work in progress….
- Why not jump in here with us… and reach for the goal?

Giving from a Christian perspective
Philippians 4:10-23
- There is an old Persian proverb that goes;
- "What I kept, I l_______;
- What I spent, I h_____;
- What I gave I h________!!!!
Planned... Vs 10-12...
1 We want you to know, brothers, about the grace of God that has been given among the churches of Macedonia,
2 for in a severe test of affliction, their abundance of joy and their extreme poverty have overflowed in a wealth of generosity on their part.
3 For they gave according to their means, as I can testify, and beyond their means, of their own accord,
4 begging us earnestly for the favor of taking part in the relief of the saints—
5 and this, not as we expected, but they gave themselves first to the Lord and then by the will of God to us. 2 Corinthians 8:1-5 (ESV)
- Notice that they were in a severe test of a_________, and extreme p____________!
- They begged for the favor of g_________….
- So they p_________ to give at the very first opportunity….
- II Corinthians 9:7
- "Each one must give as he has d___________ in his heart, not r_________ or under c__________, for God loves a cheerful giver.”
- Guilt is always the wrong m_________ for giving!
Fruit bearing..... vs. 13-17
- There is a great principle here.... God will a___________ His will.... with us, or without us.... the choice is ours....
- His joy was because this gift proved that these givers had developed great c____________.... and Christian maturity.
- "Fruit", as used here, is the v__________ expression of that power working inwardly, and yet invisibly, that brings about the visible and outward changes ...
- The word "abound“ …"interest that will a________ to your account"....
- .. vs. 18-20
18 But I have all, and abound: I am full, having received of Epaphroditus the things which were sent from you, an odour of a sweet smell, a sacrifice acceptable, wellpleasing to God.
19 But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.
20 Now unto God and our Father be glory for ever and ever. Amen.
- The greatest S______________ that you can Give to God , the Greatest S____________ that you can make is "Y______________!!!! Rom 12:1

Cultivating Contentment
Philippians 4:10-20
“Contentment is a highly prized, but e___________ virtue… it comes only from being rightly r________ to God and trusting His sovereign, loving, purposeful p____________”
- MacArthur
- First, it is “l________________” not earned! Vs 11-12
- this implies a process…learning is a process…
- In all Paul's unique and constant sufferings, he had learned the secret of rising above them. In the midst of all his trials, he kept his f________ on heavenly realities.
- Second it is “d________________”, not Independence
- “I can do everything t__________ H____ who gives me strength”! ….Vs 13
When he reached the limit of his r___________ and s______________, even to the point of death, he was infused with the strength of Christ.
- "I have been crucified with Christ; and it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself up for me" ( 2:20).
III. Third it is “r__________________”, not wresting
19 And this same God who takes care of me will supply all your needs from his glorious riches, which have been given to us in Christ Jesus.
Philippians 4:19 The New Living Testament
John 1:3 (ESV)
3 All things were made through H____, and without H_____ was not anything made that was made.
- In C____________ 1:16
16 For by him a____ things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—a_____ things were created through him and for him.
17 And he is before all things, and in him a_____ things hold together. - H_______________ 13:5-6 (ESV)
5 Keep your life free from love of money, and be content with what you have, for he has said, “I will n_________ leave you nor forsake you.”
6 So we can c____________ say, “The Lord is my helper; I will not fear; what can man do to me?”
6 Now there is great gain in godliness with contentment,
7 for we brought nothing into the world, and we cannot take anything out of the world.
8 But if we have food and clothing, with these we will be content.
9 But those who desire to be rich fall into temptation, into a snare, into many senseless and harmful desires that plunge people into ruin and destruction.
10 For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evils. It is through this craving that some have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many pangs.

Sermon Series: Philippians
Rejoice always
Philippians 4:1-9
The basic premise of this passage is:
… we are to be living a life that is c______________ by a singular lack of worry, or anxiety on our part, and i_______________ by a practical expression of "sweet reasonableness" and the result of this is that we will know p___________!!!
First key is "Right P______________" Vs 6 & 7...
- The Greek word that is translated here as "anxious" or "careful" means "to be pulled in d____________ d______________"....
- Webster tells us that the Old English root word that we get our word "worry" from means "to strangle, or choke".
From the spiritual point of view, worry is "wrong t____________" (that is the activity of the mind,) and "wrong f_________________", (the activity of the heart that is reacting to that wrong thinking)
The Scriptures point out, "And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts (wrong feeling) and minds (wrong thinking) in Christ Jesus." (Vs 7).
“Prayer", as the word is used here is the general word for communicating with God.... it carries the idea of a_____________, devotion, and worship.
The second word that is used here is "petition" or "Supplication"... sharing of our n_______ and p_____________.
Then comes the natural response to believing God... t_______________!!!
The second key is: "T________ right" vs. 8
"Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose m_______ is stayed on Thee: because he trusteth in Thee." (Isa. 26:3)
“Finally, brothers, whatever is t_______, whatever is n___________, whatever is r_________, whatever is p________, whatever is l___________, whatever is a______________--if anything is e________________ or p______________—think about such things.”
Note: this is a command to discipline the mind!!!!
We are to treat these things as the g________ v______ system…
M_____________ = “to reflect on; or to muse over”
The third key is that we need to DO Right!
“Those things, which ye have both learned and received, and heard and seen in me, Do:and the God of peace shall be with you!”
We need to m_________ what we b________…
